BY SAMANTHA ANNE CARRILLO Conceptualized and founded by Malinda and Mathew Galindo, the tri-annual “pop-up” community art program Atomic Culture will curate a free cultural event every four months in New Mexico. The inaugural Atomic Culture event, Turn On and Take Cover, goes down on Saturday, July 2, from 4-9 p.m. at Halagueno Arts Park in Carlsbad. Artwork in various media by Claudia X. Valdez, Nani Chacon, Joel-Peter Witkin, Scott Williams and Chico MacMurtrie will be on display. This exhibition-cum-performance fest features sets by Albuquerque acts Death Convention Singers and Chicharra and Paseño bands Miijas and Sleepercar.
