‘Whatta’ Concert

BY SAMANTHA ANNE CARRILLO It’s too early to hype the I Love the ’90s Tour, happening Sunday, June 19, at Sandia Resort and Casino (30 Rainbow Road). But when you have a lineup like this — we’re talking Salt N Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Coolio, Tone Loc, Rob Base and Young MC — it seems wise to get a jump on things. Save Vanilla Ice, who boasts intense symbolic value, these performers all have impressive chops and résumés. My inner ’90s fangirl is especially psyched about Salt N Pepa. Many an iconic 1990s hit issued forth in the heavenly voices of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, soundtracked by corresponding breaks and beats courtesy of Deidra Roper aka DJ Spinderella. From 1986’s “Hot, Cool & Vicious” to 1993’s “Very Necessary,” Salt N Pepa injected danceable, sex-positive feminist anthems like “Push It,” “Let’s Talk About Sex” and “None of Your Business” into the cultural vernacular. Whatever your fave ’90s earworm, this show aims to satisfy. Presale tickets range from $30 to $55. Learn more at ilovethe90stour.com
