Udall: GOP Will Cave on Garland Nomination

Trump releases list of nominees, urges more obstructionism

BY DAN VUKELICH U.S. Sen. Tom Udall predicts the GOP will crack on their blockage of a vote on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. The prediction came after Udall, a New Mexico Democrat, met with Garland.  “Judge Garland deserves this,” he said. “Republicans need to do their job.” “This is turning against them dramatically. It started as break even [with the public] and now its 70-30 in favor of a hearing,” Udall said. “I think the pressure is building. It started out that not a single Republican senator was willing to meet with him; now he’s met with 15 … and several of those 15 have called for a vote,” Udall said. “Several Republican senators have said, ‘Man up and vote,'" Udall said. Udall said he several Republicans have told him they feel bound by their leadership and the individual senators would like the issue to go away. “Especially those running in this electoral cycle, with several freshmen running," he said. Udall’s statements came as the likely GOP Presidential nominee, Donald Trump, published a list of possible nominees to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia. Trump urged GOP senators to continue to obstruct Garland’s appointment by President Obama.
