516 ARTS Offers Grants

BY RENE THOMPSON 516 ARTS and the Regional Regranting Program of the Andy Warhol Foundation's call for public art project proposals is open for the 2016 Fulcrum Fund grants. The non-profit art venue invites presentations and proposals for grants ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, totaling $50,000 for the first year. Free grant proposal info sessions are scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 9, at 516 ARTS (516 Central SW) from 10 a.m. to noon and Saturday, Apr. 30, at the Santa Fe Art Institute (1600 St. Michael’s Drive) in Santa Fe. These workshops will cover what the program looks for in terms of types of projects, as well as eligibility and proposal writing examples. The Fulcrum Fund aims to support artists and projects that generate meaningful shared experiences created in a collaborative spirit. The fund is specifically steered toward self-organized art that has a public component and centers around visual arts. Albuquerque is one of 10 cities the Warhol Foundation grant program has chosen this year; the foundation has funded more than 240 projects over the past six years. Students, commercial businesses and non-profit organizations are not eligible, and applicants must live within an 80-mile radius of Albuquerque or Santa Fe. The deadline to apply is June 15, and application information can be found at 516arts.org/fulcrumfund.     To RSVP, call Claude Smith at (505) 242-1445 or email claude@516arts.org.
